The concept of this dish is great! I made it with some changes: like I didn't pre-cook the macaroni, no eggs, and watched the slow cooker and did open the lid to test it al-dente; this is something one needs to test for themselves as all slow cookers are vastly different in temperature profiles. If you do this, I believe you will get a desirable product-you may be surprised to find your M&C done in ~1.5 hours instead of 5. Also, it tends to be firm according to the listed ingredients.
Many dishes are really 'overcooked' in the slow cooker; however, that's the price to pay for the 'all day' convenience.
