Absolutely delicious! You really can use a cup of sugar and it's still pretty sweet. Also, it seemed kind of thin towards the end, but in the last hour, 9 1/2 exactly, the apples started to turn into the apple butter consistancy and it was perfect!!! I love having such a great easy recipe. We like it a bit chunky so I chopped by hand and it was still pretty creamy. It lasts a long time, too!

Fantastic! This recipe has become a family tradition. In the fall we go apple picking and then use the fresh picked apples to make this scrumptious treat! Last year I made two huge batches and canned it. I gave decorated jars of apple butter to friends and family for Christmas and everyone loved it! My mom follows the recipe exactly and it is delicious but I prefer a little more spice. I use two cups of brown sugar and two cups of white and I also add a teaspoon of ginger. Many thanks for sharing this recipe!

I loved this apple butter! I didn't use as much sugar (more like 2.5 cups) but it was plenty sweet. I left a couple of cinnamon sticks in with it while it was in the crock pot over night and it was delicious. May have taken longer than the recipe said to reduce enough, but the spices were great. Followed other reviewers advice and ran apples through food processor first to get rid of chunks. Canned it up the next day and put them in gift baskets for the holidays!

Good. Useful to add a dollop when making bread in the breadmaker.

I have been using this recipe for years and it's always a hit. I wanted to mention that I sometimes will leave the peeling on and then run it through a sieve. It gives more vitamins and more texture. just make sure to use organic apples!;)

I gave this a 5 because its a good base. But, after making this a lot for my father in law who loves apple butter, I've modified it. The sugar called for I believe is WAY too much so I use cup sugar, 1 cups brown sugar. You could probably even do less than that, depending on your desire of sweetness. I also add a little bit of nutmeg and up the cinnamon. This stuff makes the house smell so yummy.

I made this for the first time a few months ago and man was it amazing! I used grannysmith apples and put them in the food processor before cooking them as a previous person suggested. Our 7 jars are gone already and my husband is asking for more! Definitely a great recipe!

I only used 3 apples, and a half cup of sugar. I didn't want to make much, because if I ended up not liking it, I'd be throwing alot away. I used Fuji apples. I haven't had Apple Butter in years, and I can't seem to find it anywhere in Alberta. The apples got really dry, and I added water. I didn't make them small enough, so I put the mixture in the food processor and it turned out light in color than. It was very dark before I proccessed it. My husband suggested I use a sweeter apple, like machintosh or granny smith.

Awesome Recipe! Used brown sugar, more nutmeg (because we really like nutmeg!), another teaspoon of cinnamon and allspice. I also left the lid off longer for extra thick, rich apple butter. Yum! Family loooves it!! Try it over Vanilla Bean ice cream. Yum!

Excellent recipe. Tweeked according to personal preferences concerning apples and spices. Slow cooking made the house smell wonderful. Cooks down a lot. Husband said it was the best he has ever eaten.

Excellent! Like many others, I had to cook the apples several more hours uncovered. It came out great and the house smelled wonderful.

This was my first experience with canning and it went very smoothly. As others have suggested, USE HALF THE SUGAR (1/2 brown, 1/2 white), invest in an apple peeler/slicer/corer, and run this through the blender (or use an immersion blender) before canning. I used Gala apples as they are more flavorful than Golden Delicious IMO. U also used heaping teaspoonfuls of cinnamon/cloves and added some ginger and nutmeg. Cooking time is much longer than listed - probably closer to 14 hours. They only took about 5 minutes in a steam canner.

This turned out very good! I used Red Delicious apples since they were a little cheaper. I think those are good apples for this because they are already a little mushy. I took pint jars to family members and they all raved about it.

I used 3 lbs of apples and 1 cup of sugar. Cored and sliced the apples, cooked them for 10 hrs covered and 2 hrs uncovered then ran them thru the mill(to remove the skins. The best I ever had, even better than the Amish make.

Amazing! I'm not a fan of apple butter, but my husband is, so with a surplus of apples after apple picking this fall I decided to make this. This recipe is not only delicious but incredibly easy! After cooking, I put the apple butter in 1 cup gladware containers and froze them and they come out of the freezer tasting as good as out of the crock pot!
