I really liked this recipe, but thought it was a bit too sweet. Next time I'll reduce the sugar. Also, after having it cook all day, it was still pretty chunky, so I just mushed it up with a hand potato masher. I actually enjoyed it a little bit chunky. My house smelled amazing for days!

Yes, you definitely need to gauge the amount of sugar relative to the types of apples you used. Not sure of the type I used but they were on the sweeter side so I should have cut the sugar some. Overall a good and easy recipe!

Delicious apple butter recipe! I made a double batch and canned many pints for winter. I used the apples off our backyard tree which are pretty tart, so I did need the whole amount of sugar to sweeten it up.

DELICIOUS! I cut the sugar in half and used 6 "York" apples. I also ran the apples through a food processor to make it smooth. At first I thought it was still too sweet; but, once spread on a piece of bread, it was just right. Thank you Betty Ruenholl for sharing such a delicious recipe.

This is really good. I didn't have any cloves and like a previous reviewer, I just omitted it. And I used half brown sugar and half white. Also, I let it cook all day and night and still was too chunky even after stirring so I just popped it in the blender and it turned out great. My kids woke up this morning thinking I was baking something yummy for breakfast :) Fooled them HA!

Mmmmm good and super easy. (Well after you peel the apples) I processed the jars to keep the apple butter in the pantry and to give away as gifts!

This is a wonderful recipe; wish my mother was still here to see how easy it can be made today. The aroma drifts thru the house and brings back memories of what I call "comfort food". If not sure on sugar amount, start with one cup and taste; everyone has different likes/dislikes - I prefer tartness, use crabapples and cut back on the sugar. But definitely give it a try-it's wonderful and thank-you to Betty for sharing her recipe!!

This was so easy, and was the best tasting apple butter. I did cut back on the sugar, and used nutmeg instead(we don't like cloves). I'm going to use it for gifts.

This is a great recipe! I love apple butter in the fall, and decided to make it since I have an abundance of apples this year. I used a mixed variety of apples and allspice instead of ground cloves since I did not have any on hand. I tasted it partially through the cooking, and it tasted just like pie. If you're impatient like I am, sneak a little aside for ice cream or waffles when it is only a couple of hours in.

This recipe is fabulous and very easy (if you use a corer/peeler to prepare the apples). I have shared it with friends and it has become a fall tradition.

I didn't have 5.5bs of apples so I pretty much cut the recipes in half and used only 1 cup on Splenda for the sugar. It's a really good recipe and a great use of the slow cooker. I put half in the freezer and left half out for topping toast and english muffins!

This came out amazing but I made a couple of alterations. I halved the amount of sugar called for and it was still a little on the sweet side. I used half brown sugar and half white sugar. I also did not have ground cloves so I used pumpkin pie spice. I cooked it on high for 2 1/2 hours before switching to low for 8 hours.

This is a great recipe! I doubled the recipe and only added 2 cups of Splenda instead of sugar since I cannot eat any sugar at all. It is so easy and delicious! All of my friends love it too!

This Apple Butter really is delicious!!! Specially on pancakes. I save the apple skins and seeds and boil them up with a cup or so of water till the color comes out of them then strain the liquid reduce it to half a cup and add it to the rest of the apples. Also added a little less sugar than in the original recipe.

I like simple recipes and this one fits the bill. I bought a 20lb box of Gravensteins. They are a little more tart than normal. I don't like extra sweet things, so took other's advice and cut the sugar in half. Also increased the Cinnamon and Cloves by 50% and also added 1/4 teasp Ginger and a teasp. of Vanilla extract. Cooked overnight and in the morning ran it through the blender. This is awesome Apple Butter and sooo easy. I am going to make all 20 lbs of apples into butter for gifts and my own cupboard. Fantastic!!

Not only is this great with apples - try it with pears. You adjust sugar to taste. Some apples are sweeter than others. I make Pear Butter too and it is wonderful. I also run this through the blender after cooking to make it extra smooth.

I tried this recipe for the first time today. It was just wonderful. Reminds me of the apple butter my mom use to make for us. I did cut the sugar down. Used 1 cup of brown sugar and 1 cup of splenda. It turned out perfect. Will make again.
