Hot Cross Buns-Carolyn wants this recipe but we have no margarine and no butter. Can we substitute veg shortening? Also can we add some dried cranberries?

Another odd grocery purchase... Today it's Beets. I've officially gone through all of the peppers, but I did have to go to the store... And if I go to the store... There is always another random manager's special. Now it's beets. I contained myself, and only purchased one bunch. It's still a lot of beets with the stems. Any ideas? I have to be honest that I don't think I've ever cooked with beets. EVER. My 2yo thinks that they are pretty and thinks that we should mail them to the Easter Bunny, along with an eggplant to say "thank you". I told her the mail man doesn't go to #1 Hoppers Ln. Anyhow, any suggestions?

Okay....so this is fun. Noodles are cooked. Meat cooked. Not worried about that. However, I have 3 layers of lasagna-stuff (lots of cheese). How long do I cook it??!!???? I just want it to be the best, because I've never made this before, and I'm worried about the middle cheese layer not being melted. TIA!!!!!!!!!!!

Buon Appetito. Made my "pseudo brined" 9 lb. spiral cooked ham with 2 liters of ginger ale in a large oven bag. I turned it every hour, four times. Drained the soda and put the ham into a roasting pan and covered it with foil then glazed it every 20 minutes. The saltiness was gone and the ham had a sweet, slightly tangy flavor. Since you don't like the salt, like me, you should give this a try. You may find yourself eating ham more often. Hope you had a nice holiday!

I'm up very early. Want to with you all a very "hoppy" Easter! May your hams, turkeys, roasts, breakfast casseroles, side dishes and desserts turn out well, may you enjoy time with family and friends. Off to begin my marathon of prep and cooking/baking very soon - husband and I alone for breakfast (crowd arrives at 2), so to honor my Jewish heritage we are enjoying lox and bagels on Easter. Lol

OK, I guess it can't be categorized as a miracle but I am pretty happy. A couple of weeks ago I made Aaliyah's birthday cake and I couldn't find my favorite leaf tip for cake decorating. I made due with another one but it's just not the one I like best. Tonight I was looking for old Easter egg loops (the ones to take eggs out of the dye). I didn't find them but I did find my leaf tip and it wasn't in a drawer where it belongs. I totally just stumbled on it. So now I'll have it for my carrot cake tomorrow. yay!
