I live in SoCal (Orange) and have a shopping problem. I love Phò and would really like to try a good recipe for it. My problem is that the best rated recipes for it (on this site and several others) call for the use of cardamom pods. I have found whole cardamom seeds and also ground cardamom - however, through extensive online research I've found that the consensus is that there is no substitute for using the whole pod as regards to flavor. My problem is that I have no idea where to find it! I've looked in all of the local big chain supermarkets (Ralphs, Stater Bros., Vons, Albertsons, etc...) as well as Mexican and Asian supermarkets. Would it be worth it to try finding a middle eastern store?? I would appreciate any suggestions.
