We got a case of red apples from the Keene Community Kitchen last week and Carolyn wants to make apple pie. Any good recipes? Just not to rich.

What are good foods for a women with cancer? We need to find recipes that Carolyn can eat. She just does not have much of an appetite. She is able to keep food down but she needs to eat but she just is not hungry. Maybe foods that will also fight the cancer?

Hi, Y'all!!! Some what OT, yet still related to food! My favorite place to be is a fabric shop, then the kitchen! As I'm out buying fabric I always see a store called "The Fresh Market" and I've been wanting to go. So, today I took 15 minutes out of my fabric shopping to explore! It appeared to be stocked with organic produce, fresh meats (that you wait in line for) not pre-wrapped in a styrofoam trays and plastic, a deli, bins of fresh coffee beans, jars of candy, and a ton of things you don't find at your local grocery store! I only recognized a few brands of cereal (which were mostly plain non-sugar coated kinds) and only 2 brands of spaghetti sauce! It has a rustic feel and reminded me of the farmers market! They even have some essential oils. I was so excited, I thought I would share! If you have one near you, I recommend taking a look around! www.thefreshmarket.com There are only about 100+- stores across the US, I hope there is one near you to explore!

We are having people over Saturday to watch football and sort of celebrate our anniversary (4 years). I'm making venison chili, stuffed jalapeños, stuffed mushrooms and queso. I would like to throw in a new appetizer and test it out on our close friends to possibly use for our Christmas party. Should I have something sweet too? Ok so requesting a new appy AND something sweet :):):)

Off Topic: Hi all I posted a story yesterday about a conversation between a travel agent and a telephone company employe. It seems everyone thought I I was the travel agent. Sorry for the misunderstanding the travel agent was my witty cousin not myself. Just felt I needed to clear that up thanks.

I've volunteered to host our bi-weekly church youth group on Oct. 12, which is just a "house hangout" and a way for students from 4 schools to just gather. I'm looking for protein based snacks, something NOT sweet. The group meets on Sundays from 4:30-6pm, and at the last hangout, a sweet mom sent a huge batch of chocolate chip cookies, so when they got home at 6:30 for dinner, nobody was hungry, even though I made them eat a small pork chop, a few Tbsp of squash, and a dab of mashed potatoes. Any ideas that will serve 10-12 youth, without corn, beans, tomatoes (bbq sauce, salsa, etc.)? Since it's late afternoon I know they'll be hungry, but I don't want to spoil their dinners. TIA!

Hi Buzzers, thank you SO much for your words of wisdom with my teen DD! Things are slowly but surely improving. I made brownies yesterday that were ready when she got home from an after-school lab, with melted Andes Mints on top, which got me an enthusiastic grin. This morning when I dropped her at school, she mumbled "I love you" as she got out of the car. There's a light at the end of this teenage tunnel!

Question: (3 answers)

Need help--it's been years since I made this particular apple pie that has a no roll crust (1 1/4 flour, 3/4 c quick oats, 1/4 c brown sugar, 1 stick butter melted, 1 tblsn water & 1 tspn vanilla) Here's my dilemma. I made a dessert with a lot of butter in the crust last week. It was so hard to get it out of the 9x13. I did not grease it because it did not call for it to be greased & when you have that much butter in a crust--greasing the pan might either make it taste weird, and there should be enough butter in the crust for the ease of removing. Should I grease or just hope it will cut out of the pie plate without issues? Also, I have Granny Smith apples I am using for the filling. Should I use half Granny Smith and Macintosh or HoneyCrisp? Thanks so much!!!!!!! This pie has a sour cream-apple filling with eggs (similar to a custardy filling) with a streusly type topping.
