Mrs.J. I used to use one of these all the time! Perfect rice! never dry and never sticks. also a great device to reheat fish without drying out! ***

Yes you use the insert that has no holes. it is like a bowl with handles and the other steamer inserts stack on top of that. and No, sorry I have never cooked basmati rice in the veggie steamer. It's too bad you don't have a micro. that is how I steam most of my veggies especially in the summer when it's so hot here.

I think my first veggie steamer was a black and decker. you should try it and see if it will work for you.

also forgot to mention. that in the bottom of the steamer you have two water line marks, fill to the top line for rice.

I'm just graduating from instant rice, so I can't help you, but you 2 have such great information. Thanks for all your input on various things.

Hi rice cooker nonsense, ---- this way is magic Taught to me in 60's by my Asian friends in Kenya--- get rid of starch - --- cheers. White (BASMATI) Long Grain Rice White long grain rice is easy!!!!!! - Forget what it says on packets. The secret is to reduce the starch in the rice; rinsing and draining twice, once before cooking and once after cooking readily achieves this I prefer Basmati for perfumed smell, flavour and taste. 180g/6oz White Basmati Long Grain Rice ½ to 1tbsp Salt - to taste 25g Butter Pour rice into a sieve, rinse thoroughly in COLD water and drain; Fill a large pot to ½ to ¾ with cold water, add the salt and butter and bring to boil; Add rice, stirring well to avoid any sticking, the butter helps in this respect; Cover, bring back to boil and simmer for some 10 to12 minutes or so until rice is soft but still has a slight bite; Meanwhile boil water in a kettle; When Rice ready, drain in sieve then RINSE with BOILING water from kettle and allow to drain again; Stir with fork; Stick free rice.

Basmati is my favorite rice. I just make it in the pot on the stove and I've never had a sticking issue. I do not rinse after it is cooked myself because I make it with garlic, onions, small pieces of potato and fresh dill and either saffron or turmeric. But I rinse it before hand until the water is clear, like the video.

Mrs. J, I have a Zojirushi rice cooker (the smaller one) and I love it. There are settings for white mixed rice, brown rice, sushi rice and I even cook steel oats oatmeal in it.

Mrs. J. - my hubby and I love rice so we usually make a little extra to have for lunch. It keeps well for a few days
