In my neck of the woods, dried beef is used in sandwiches and found with the other sandwich meats. My mom used to use it to make chipped beef gravy for breakfast too. Some brands are much saltier than others but as I recall, neither is like beef jerky.

i buy it in a jar - on the canned meat isle:-)i think it may be armour brand

Carl Buddig dried beef in cellophane wrap packet. I think you can get it in Canada

For making beef ball you could probably sub very thin corned beef, minced up fine.

All of the above...;) For us, chipped beef is the stuff in the package in the cold cut section, like Bambam said, but also, dried beef comes in a jar in the section with tuna, corned beef, etc, in the inner aisles of the supermarket.

Beef jerky is Obviously dried but, 'dried beef, per sa, is the jarred kind for chipped beef over toast, called SOS.
