DairyQueen is looking for: (4 recommendations)
I've **had enough** with shopping at WalMart. Got a few *kitchen* grocery items yesterday. Kindly asked cashier to pack lightly and seoarate *wet* items from dry. When I got home, so wasn't the case. My bag of sugar was wet, from having frozen/thawed lemonade **thrown in** with sugar. I firmly believe some people have no regard for anyone but themselves. GRRR.

Walmart hires a large number of "challenged" people in some way. I'm sure if you speak with the manager they will make good on your ruined purchase even though it is inconvenient for you. This happened to me at a grocery store ... cashier never rang thru my coupons and I was pxxxed. I called the store manager and he explained the cashiers handicap to me, not that it makes it right but ...

Linda (LMT) - Good idea! You know DairyQueen, God has given some people more challenges than others, and I am sure that the probably challenged cashier wasn't deliberately trying to damage your goods but just doing the best job that she could. Please look at her with "those eyes." My brother was a challenged person, but with the right help and support he was able to become a very successful business person able to compete against those who never had to deal with even a small fraction of the challenges he had in life. Please forgive the cashier, and speak to the store manager about your refund.

I am fussy about how my things are packed, so I always pack them myself. I get what I want, and it save the cashier time.

Mrs. J., I'm with you. This is not a great injustice. I'm sitting next to my 38 year old sister-in-law who is battling stage 4 cervical cancer and a ruined bag of sugar wouldn't even be a blip on the radar for us. Try to think about this with a 'big picture' view.

i'm with mrs. j. but if i'm not bagging myself, I keep a close eye and will make any changes if necessary.

I don't think that's fair...first, she's just venting, she didn't say it was the end of the world, and I happen to know DairyQueen is no stranger to "serious" issues, health included. Also, I'm all for helping out those in need and giving people a chance, but part of that is helping them understand and if she specifically asked that her items be separated, then I think that's a fair thing to expect. Even "challenged" can understand that. And, in my experience, it's pretty obvious that not caring is more likely than not understanding. Most of the 'challenged' people I work with are so much more meticulous and are so happy to work and do well they are much more friendly and careful. She might have just had a bad cashier and she's got a right to be miffed. :)

Exactly, Keni. The people at our local Wal-Mart aren't challenged, they're indifferent. BIG difference. It has nothing al ALL to do with their mental capacity.

This pumpkin dump cake is just as easy as the classic. With spiced cake mix and pumpkin puree, you'll have a tasty fall treat ready in a jiff.

I'm sorry all your stuff got dumped together! BUT, it reminds me of one of my favorite Reader's Digest stories. A shopper was going to drop her groceries at home before running off to do something else, and asked the box boy to separate her frozen items [so she could put them away quickly when she got home]. She got home to find that he had separated them - from each other! Each frozen item was in a different bag!

I take my own reuse able shopping bags. When I set items on the belt I group them together. Cold stuff first with the freezer bag on top, big items that do not get bagged and then the small stuff. By the time the cashier is ready for those smaller items I am grabbing everything and packing my own bags my way. I don't even like the way DH bags groceries!

LOL my sister does that LN. she puts the cold stuff on the belt, with her insulated bag, etc. Just like you do. LOL

That sort of thing is exactly why I haven't shopped at Wal-Mart in over EIGHT years. I haven't missed anything there and I don't spend any more money than when I shopped there. I'll never go to one again.

Which is why when I go I use the self check out lane. There are two here and the one doesn't have them but the other one does. A third on the south side but they dont' have self check out either so I don't go there either.

I love the new self check out at our Walmart! But if I am doing my weekly shopping I go through the lines. I have also figured out though what cashiers I like and which ones I don't or don't know. I don't have any problems this way. I will admit I probably go 2 to 3 times a week so it wasn't hard to figure out, lol.

Koriekiss, there is one cashier at the grocery I refuse to get in her line!

And don't even think of taking a prescription to Wal-Mart to be filled while you wait, they will make you wait hours, hoping you'll do more shopping while waiting I guess????

I am so disgusted with Walmart. It's the closest grocery store to my house, but I really hate the place! Nobody who works there really cares, and they act like it's an inconvenience if you need help. I used to shop there a lot for the better prices. They recently added 7 or 8 self checkout lanes in the store, so it helps, but lately I go to other stores that are farther away in order to avoid wally-world.

We have a smaller food only Wal-Mart by us called, "Neighborhood Market". All the employees are so nice and have worked there for quite a long time. I know them by name as they do me. The large stores have a great turnover in employees, a whole different store. I take in a large insulated bag I bought at Sam's many years ago. I put my cold items in it right while I'm at the register. It works well and you can stop off at other stores knowing your cold items will stay cold. The Publix by us does hire physically challenged to bag the groceries and honestly they do a better job than the college kids do. But the best baggers are the retired men and women that were in the military, now they know how to bag. :-)

Wow, I don't shop at walmart that often, but when I do they put so many foods in separate bags I have to stop and tell them they can mix up this and that. I don't want to come home with a zillion plastic bags if I forgot my cloth bags! I guess I get the opposite problem here! It's all about the training I suppose.

I've had no trouble at Walmart. I separate my items and put them on the belt in the order I want them bagged. They don't really have room to sort and at our WM the cashier also does the bagging. If it's in order, it's bagged the way I want it bagged. If I do buy cold or frozen items, I have to put them on ice before leaving anyway, during the summer. So having them sorted makes it easy.

elle...I do the exact same thing. I put everything on the belt in a certain order. this also make it easier to put it away once home :)

Me too! :) I am about an inch away from OCD...sometimes it's annoying, sometimes it comes in handy! :) I put all my items up in a certain way and most of the time, I get positives comments on it. If I see something go into a bag I'd rather it not be in, I just smile and move it. But, that's me. I know I'm weird. ;)

DQ I am so sorry! I hate that. I always use the self checkout now. I bring my own bags and pack my own stuff. I got tired of that and other cashiers that will put 2 things in the plastic bag and go to the next and you end up with 25 bags for 50 items. you get my idea. Aaaarrrrgggghhh!
