good afternoon, buzzers. I was just gifted a whole bunch of fresh basil from my neighbour. can I use almonds instead of pine nuts in pesto???? thanksamunch! :)

I wondered that myself. I made some with walnuts last week. Was just as good. If I get more basil, I will be trying with almonds. Go for it Weebs!

You can use just about any kind of nut or none at all. Usually the softer nuts incorporate better (ie; pine, walnut)

Toast them in a dry pan a little first, don't burn them though!

okay! good to know that the softer nuts work better. makes sense that it would add a kind of creaminess to the pesto. having thought of that, maybe i'll just leave out the almonds as they are not anywhere near as soft as walnuts or pine nust. Thanks for the info everyone! :)
