I bought hot sausage by mistake. How can I tame the 'hotness' of the sausage for lentil soup that I want to make?

Oh I love hot sausage in lentil soup! You might be surprised. If you're absolutely against it tho, I'd try browning it up, then giving it a good rinse under hot water (that'll help remove the excess grease as well).

Just read online that you can try adding sugar ... but to be very careful as that may make it too sweet. You might also try making a 50/50 mix (half ground beef, half cooked crumbled spicy sausage)

Literal is right - I was surprised how much I preferred hot sausage as it really isn't hot as it sounds. It really just gives it a nice "tang". Now I use it always. I probably first tried it by mistake as well!

Someone posted earlier in the week...peanut butter. Try adding a spoon at a time to the soup. It should remove the heat and not change the flavor of the souo.

I have not found the HOT sausage all that hot. I regularly buy them and if I WANT hot, I go extra hot!

Imo, washing or rinsing the sausage will wash the Flavor away. Serve the rentals with sour cream, the fat in it will cool your tongue down.
