We were woken this morning by our smoke alarms. They were not all going off and only one or two beeped a couple times then stoped. Then one blurted out "Fire". Ok - there is no fire and they didn't do anything anymore. I was up and looking out back and got to see 2 fawns playing with each other while their mama was nearby. We thought no more of it then about 4 hours later one went off again and stopped. It's not the low battery sound. We are suppose to go out later for something to eat but now I'm thinking ... is it a sign to stay home??

Change out the batteries and Go! IMO, just a fluke. Make sure everything is turned off, stove, etc. and unplugged. I always unplug my little appliances. Go out and enjoy your day!

I'm trying to conclude. Bad detectors or the spirits trying to say something. My DH is just as bad as me.

Oh yeah, my Mom would always say that the Deer mean something when they visit you too...Sometimes it means rebirth, or regrowth, but I think it also means watchfulness, so perhaps there's something to look out for!

Check your dryer vent too. I hardly ever leave the house with dryer running since I heard about all the fires they can cause.

Or, you just need to reset your alarms! lol ;)

We took the one out we think is causing the trouble and are seeing if anything more happens. We have replacements downstairs. These things are not old and we go through this every so often. Our concern is we have a dog and I would hate for him to trapped in the house with these things going off. Poor little guy gets so upset from the sound.

if it is more than one alarm I would be concerned. Do they detect carbon monoxide?

Interesting westcoastmom. My mom always believed in signs and on occasion we think she stops in. The first round of sound I thought someone wanted us to get up to see the deer but the second one ... hmmm. I may be making more out of this or just looking for some esoteric meaning.

Lucky Noodles, that happened to us, our dryer caught fire years ago, luckily we were home and turned it off. The repairman said it's from clogged lint and dryer sheets. So I have never used dryer sheets since then!

WCM, wow, never put the two together. There was a baby bunny in the yard this morning. The toad is having a sunbath in the herb garden. My grandma always watched the worms in the fall for a sign of winter.

No Koriekiss. It yelled "fire" and just once then stopped.

I do leave the slow cooker once in a while but not often. I make DH get the car ready while I shut everything off (all the stuff HE left on). My dogs hate it when the alarms sound and the answering machine plays back my voice.

Lucky N.,Like a plumbing snake? We have one of those too. I should do that because we moved into a new house a year ago, and don't want to take chances as I am sure the people living here before used dryer sheets.

Like a snake flattened with a brush on one end. FIL bought it on an info commercial or somewhere online. MIL hated it so I got it and love it!

Aaah, thanks manella. BW said it tasted more like a banana cookie. I was thinking of changing the name but not sure to what. Ideas welcomed if you have any.

Did you know that even brand new batteries could really be low? It depends on how long they are in the warehouse, how long they have been on the shelf of your local store, etc. There actually is a gadget that tests the life of batteries. If you have more than one battery in each smoke detector, the weakest one will throw the good ones off balance. Update them all! Hopefully, this is just a fluke happening!

I swear we must change the batteries out at least 2x a year. I'm beginning to think these were not hardwired correctly. And my husband bought the 10 year batteries! As he says ... time to move.

Thanks Lucky noodles! Linda, I was just trying to research what the meaning of baby deer, but can't find much, most Native meanings are passed down and retold. But, with the mom being around, it could mean protectiveness, but I also found this >" Watching the deer and her babies is a reminder to honour and respect the child-like innocence within your self and go about your life with gentleness and an open heart. You should also stand strong on your path, in your beliefs, and not allow yourself to get distracted by outside influences." Just interesting thoughts! :)

I would get the vacuum out and vacuum the alarms with the little brush. Spiders get in there sometimes just like the grill.

I thought my alarms were working too until the fire dept came to check them after the neighbors house burnt down. One downstairs didn't even have a battery in it. Then it wouldn't work with a battery. They replaced it with one of those 10 year alarms for free. The others were ok. I was mortified.
