I have a simple scones recipe that tastes good but the texture is more like cake than a scone. Any suggestions to get the scones to be toastier or more crumbly?

I would compare it to another simple scone recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Grandma-Johnsons-Scones/Detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Title&e11=grandmas%20scones&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&e7=community%20list

Chill your butter well, even freeze it, and cut it into the flour with a pastry blender or food processor. Handle the dough as little as possible.

Find a highly rated scone recipe on this site by using the search bar at the top of the page. Compare it to the recipe you are using. This might give you a clue. And...we can't help you without seeing the recipe you are using.

the Joy of Baking dot com has really good scones and advice. I usually make the coffee house scones or the blueberry ones and they have never failed me.
