JA is asking: (3 answers)
Hello, I am going to make a mold cake (Wilton lamb cake) for the first time and it is recommended that I make a heavy cake, like pound cake. I am making this cake for a birthday and would like to make something like a strawberry cake like this recipe (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/strawberry-cake-ii/detail.aspx). I am not sure if this qualifies as a heavy cake- my sister doesn't like chocolate cakes and I feel a pound cake would be too plain. I know she would love a cake like this strawberry cake (which I've made before and is amazing, by the way.) Can anyone please help as while I love to bake, this would be the first time I'm baking a cake that is supposed to stand on its own as a mold (versus regular cake shape) Thanks! J

You can use a strawberry cake mix & add 1 cup water 1/3 cup oil, 3 eggs & 1/2 box vanilla pudding mix (use the small pkg of pudding). This will make a dense moist cake that will hold up when you take it out of the mold.

I made that Wilton Lamb cake many years ago using only a cake mix and it held up just fine. It's not a huge mold so I don't think you'll have problems with it being so large and heavy that it falls apart.

Any WASC recipe would work fine. Strawberry WASC variation - 2 white cake mixes 1 3/4 c sugar 2 c cake flour 1-1/2 t salt 1 1/3 c strawberry daquiri drink mix 1 1/3 c water 2 c sour cream 9 egg whites 1/4 c oil 2 tsp strawberry extract or 1 dram LoRann strawberry 2 tsp vanilla You can cut the recipe in half if you don't need that much cake batter.
