Decadent bar cookies with many layers of goodness. Rich chocolate chips, chewy coconut, pecans baked into the caramelized goodness of sweetened condensed milk.

I just finished up in the garden - picked a handful of cherry tomatoes and 2 huge Early Girls that are rather late this year.

My garden is struggling this year. My tomatoes and eggplant are diseased and I'm not sure what they have. I am still getting the tomatoes though.

The grasshoppers are having a field day around here. They are still too small and fast for the dog to catch. She is going to have a field day catching them in a couple of weeks.

Inspired by a famous Irish drink, a moist chocolate cake filled with Irish cream filling gets a sweet whiskey glaze.

I've been around. Got my food made for tomorrow. Garage sale stuff is gone. Made it to the library. Got my car filled up with gas. Vacuumed out the car. I'm exhausted!

8:30/9, it's about 2 1/2 hours or so. We have made the Columbus trip from here to there a lot over the years for everything from friend visits, wresting tournements, weddings. It's an easy trip. I'm ready to rock 'n' roll on down!

Rich Pasta for the Poor Kitchen

A quick, simple pasta tossed with butter, parsley, and Parmesan cheese means you probably won't even have to go to the store! Try adding summer vine-ripened tomatoes for extra fresh flavor and flair.

Each person should only spend $4 per day on food and drink. Which for us would be $240 a month. NB Papa would object but I would like to do this.

I should add, for a month, not forever.

Interesting, thanks BN. Yes, I have a veggie garden this year :) I put a cheapy fence around it and so far so good :) Still tons to do :) around the rest of the yard. . .maybe next year I can have the back yard and garden done quicker since I won't have to fence it next year, LOL!! One person can only do so much

No kidding! That is so much work! Gardening is a full time job too! Every week I am clearing more weeds from the same areas I cleared the week before!

Back to the SNAP challenge. I think it would be interesting to develop a bunch of recipes that are both affordable and nutritious. It really would be a challenge, that is for sure.

I wonder how many more people would plant a veggie garden if there were some help available to get it started. Sounds like a good community service project - maybe for an Eagle Scout.

I have been playing with recipes for awhile. And eating cheaper and fresher, overall. . .I will look at the recipes, I have the concept, LOL!! Very seldom eat meat here, except fish or chicken, but (trust me) I'm not going hungry, LOL!!

Oh isn't thinning the worst! I hate it. I was out picking out more volunteers this morning. Sigh..... Next year I want to donate my other side yard to the volunteers - just let them go and see what happens!

You're right B'Nana! The equipment is salty! I rented a gas powered post hole digger and my neighbor rented a BIG tiller then he bought a little tiller. I ran the auger by myself and the small tiller by my self... good thing I have a sturdy base. . .that thing wanted to pull me down the street!!

I have a little tiller and I love it. Best present I have ever received from NB Papa. (He just shakes his head.....) I couldn't handle the big tiller, no way! My post hole digger has a name, he is my son in law!

We have the kind of ground that you can dig a little hole - fill it with water and it will still be full of water the next day! I amend and amend and amend and the earth just seems to eat it up.

Jun. 14, 2013 3:01 pm
LOL!!! Couldn't budge DS oh well, it's done. :) I think I'd like a tiller even a little smaller than the one my neighbor got. My garden is looking like the beginning of a raised bed. . . we'll see :)

Gardens are a process that is for sure! A friend of mine can't kneel - two knee replacements and her hubby built her three huge raised beds - waist level. She is gardening again! I will have get a link to the tiller I have. It has an electric kick starter - really is great especially starting it the first time after having sat for months.

That's awesome! This is the one my neighbor has forward rotating. . .I think the counter rotating would pull less. . .http://www.troybilt.com/equipment/troybilt/tillers/pony-garden-tiller

Very nice. Mine does more digging getting pulled backwards than forward. Forward loosens the dirt and then you pull it back and it digs in and really churns the soil.

We have been traveling the last few days by planes, trains and cars. Great opportunity to try the cuisine of small cafes and restaurants. Best thing we had so far was wood smoked halibut in OR.
