Cabbage Balushka or Cabbage and Noodles

Submitted by: rlecook
This Hungarian favorite side dish is just cabbage, onions, and egg noodles cooked in butter with salt and pepper to taste. It's so easy and good.

I am looking for the name of a plant that forms a ball. Is very hardy. Small pink flowers and the leaves are round and remind me of cabbage.

I've been trying to google it for days! I've learned a lot about ornamental cabbage . . .awesome stuff! Not it though. Most folks probably wouldn't want it. The flowers are insignificant, the plant not overly showy but the bees LOVE these flowers!

Plus, it will grow anywhere. . .not fussy at all! Doesn't mind drought, poor soil, shade. . .my kind of plant :)

Hi LadySparkle, sounds like hens & chickens. My Grandmom grew these as long as I could remember. Maybe these aren't it, but it's worth a try!

Hi CLC! Not Hens and chicks. . .I have a start of those though! This plant. . .it doesn't look like a cabbage, or grow like that. It grows like a small bush, but the leaves are silver/green like cabbage and round. The flowers are small. I will just have to visit nurseries to see if I can find a name. . .not having any kind of google luck :(

And. . .I just discovered there are many more varieties than I was aware of. . .going to plant lots of it :) Thanks again!

Are you thinking of an Allium? I'll attach a link of, but they have a round head that is made up many tiny flowers. http://www.gardeners.com/Growing-Alliums/7371,default,pg.html
