Do you need to refrigerate cheese danish from bakery? I said yes but my friend said no because the cream cheese is cooked.

Was it refrigerated when you bought it? Some of the cream cheese products that come from the bakery section(danishes, coffee cakes, and strudels come to mind) do not require refrigeration. I've never attributed it to the fact that it's been cooked, but more to the fact that the type of cream cheese filling they use is a highly processed food that contains a lot of artificial preservatives and additives.

Thank you SOL, Gram and Diz. The danishes were not refrigerated when she bought them. You are right about the artificial preservatives and assitives, I didn't think about it.

No, not necessary to refrigerate the cheese Danish. Unless you plan to have them around for more than a few days.

Commercial bakeries use a shelf stable cream cheese that is not available to the general public. If the Danish was not under refrigeration at the bakery then they do not need to be refrigerated. If you made them yourself then yes they would need to be refrigerated. Cooking does not change that. As an example cheesecake is cooked but needs to be refrigerated.

I agree with Marie, baking cream cheese has nothing to do with how you store it afterward. The best thing is to see how it was kept at the grocery store. It will keep longer if you refrigerate it even it wasn't refrigerated at the bakery. Most baked goods and made and sold in the same day, keeping it refrigerated won't hurt anything.
