Need more input about the home made laundry soap. iceemama gave it a good shot and I will keep in mind what she said when mixing with the water for washing.....but....if you're a laundry soap maker and have some time would you consider answering a question about same????

I now know we did use the wrong stuff. I bought Arm & Hammer laundry detergent not washing soda. I can not get washing soda here in my (apparently podunk) small town. I have learned how to make it out of regular baking soda and wonder if I heat up some of the now gelled liquid laundry soap from this recipe and mix well with the rest (I have a grout mixer for my drill) would it work or does it really need it. We have soft water. It's jelled up nicely and I still have to do the second mix so I was wondering if I could add it now. Thanks in Advance for any help. I will be checking in all morning till I make the grocery run.

I have never made it since it would be impractical for the small amount of laundry I generate. However, I see these questions often enough that I became curious and did some research. It seems good old Borax is what should be used in the liquid (gel) and washing soda is used in the powder version. ----- Now, as I said, I have no first hand experience, but I can't see why you couldn't either do it with your mixer or, just add the Borax to each load. I hope this helps.

I'm not sure what is in the recipe you used. The one I have made uses borax, washing soda, and shredded bar soap along with water.

I'm feeling bad that you have this big batch of soap and are afraid to use it! I just looked into it. I'm going to attach a link to hopefully make you feel better. The soda helps to remove grease but since you used detergent, you shouldn't need that. It also helps keep hard water from making the detergent not sud. Since you have soft water, that shouldn't matter. I hope this helps.
