This may sound like a dumb question but does anyone know a good substitute for sherry in a recipe? I don't know if I've ever tasted it. I have some Pinot Gris and some Chianti. Would either of those work? Does sherry have a lower alcohol content and if so should I burn some off before adding to the rest of the ingredients? I guess this really counts as more than one question! Thanks ahead of time!

Good Morning stiritup ~ I like your screen name. For me I would sub apple cider vinegar or a very dry white wine. Enjoy!

non-drinkers often just use chicken broth to keep the liquid proportion equal

Sherry is a bit sweeter. Alcohol content is a little more than wine. If the recipe is red meat use chianti, if white use pinot gris.

As long as it isn't the main ingredient in a recipe, I get good results subbing any other kind of non-alcoholic liquids like broth.

Though I'm not against using alcoholic beverages in a recipe I am very glad to have this substitution list now. So often I steer away from a recipe because I don't want to go and buy a bottle of booze/wine that I normally wouldn't drink. Thank you for this link nanny129.
