Good evening dear friends. A while back, someone posted how to clean oven racks by putting them in garbage bags. I want to clean mine tomorrow and I can't find the post on how to do it. Am I supposed to put them in tonight? And, just spray them with oven cleaner? Jeez, I hate it that I forget these things. Has anyone else had success using this method? HELP!

Hello Candice - I used to work in the food service dept. at school. We used the garbage bag method. We put the racks in the bag, dumped in some ammonia, tied the bags shut and set them outside for the night. The next day, we just scrubbed the racks and they were nice and clean. Wash with soapy water before putting them back in the oven.

PS - it is almost strawberry time, time to make my favorite frosting. :o)

Amonia! That's the part I forgot. Oh Molly, thank you. I have a big jug of it under the sink too! I'm going to get those burgers in there tonight. Now, do the racks need to be actually sitting in the liquid or just spray some on the racks themselves or is it the fumes that gets them clean? Why am I making this so hard?

Just dump it in the bag,I do think it is the fumes that do the work.

This strawberry frosting is made with real strawberries for an authentically flavored and colored cupcake topping.

Marianne, do you have a cleaning method for the silicone oven mats? My Silpat mat looks awful.

No, Peggy, I don't. When I go in to BB&B, I'll look at their packaging to see what it says.

Hi Candice, you are actually remembering a blog by Mike Harvey dated March 4th. I may be too late to help you, but he has a great method and here is his post.

Good morning AZ93, thank you for the Blog post link. I just finished reading through all the posts. I missed Mike's blog. Not sure how that happened. But, it looks as though I'm on the right track with the oven racks. I'll be hauling them back inside in a bit to see how they will clean up.

I just leave mine in the oven when running the cleaning cycle. If you don't want to do that, could could try those spray products that you use to clean outdoor BBQ's.
