Organizing recipes: Hello all, I am new-ish to cooking and am looking for ideas on how to organize my recipes. By this I mean not only by category (side, main dish etc) but I also want to identify certain ingredients that can be prepared ahead of time (weekends) to make weeknight cooking easier/faster. I cannot be the only person that has encountered this, or am I. Thank you in advance!

I tend to organize main dishes by type and preparation method, so I can choose based on whether or not I 'feel like cooking' - something with multiple steps that requires being in the kitchen pretty much throughout. Or if I have time to spend earlier in the day, but want something easy to get to the table, I'll make a casserole. So I have a folder named 'Oven' with subfolders for chicken, pork/beef, meatless, ETC. (I have over 70 folders...but it works for me!) I have 'One Pot Skillet', with the same subfolders. You can look if you want but my system probably doesn't make a lot of sense to anyone but me.

I love the folders with AR. I went overboard - but it works for me (grin) - as you can easily make folders with subfolders. Sometimes I feel like a certain region (Asian, Mexican, Italian) so I have folders for those recipes (ie: Mexican with subfolders for beef, poultry, etc); Sometimes I feel like cooking by a special method (crockpot, BBQ, fondue etc) so I have folders & subfolders for that AND then I have my regular cookbook style (dessert subfolder pies, cookies; breads subfolders sandwich, quick, rolls). At first glance it looks confusing - - - but once set up, it works. Play with it and have fun!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I didn't know we can create sub-folders. I think I am also going to edit the recipes I save and add an asterisk to anything I can prepare ahead of time, like chopping!
