Yes, if on a recipe and you look at the reviews or photos, it appears as tho the back button won't work. Apparently the coding of the site thinks that each review or photo is a web 'page'. Recently, I've had that problem even if I don't review photos or recipes. Another way around it is to right-click the back button. This will display a history list. Usually I see a page related to pinterest listed. Anyway, from this list you can select the page you want to go back to.

It also will work again by hitting the refresh button.

Has AR commented on this? Is this due to "upgrades"? Just wondering if it is fixable....?

WFDM, I emailed them about the issue over a year ago before all the changes. They said there were no issues.... I had to find the "refresh" fix on my own.

I don't think it's due to upgrades, I've had this issue (don't even really consider it an issue, just a thing-that-happens) for awhile and not just on AR but on several sites that have pop-open links or that display ads. Browser changing like Scotdog says below might work for you. I just put up with it because I like Internet Explorer (I know I think I'm in the minority there). If you have a little down pointing arrow next to your back and front arrows, clicking on that also gives you the choice of which page you want to go back to.

I don't know...I really, really don't like this, tho. Notice that the web page url's read 'adchoices'. So we get stuck with this extra navigation because they put 'ad choices' on each photo and review. And the Pinterest thing, also. Oh, well. I'm still here so I guess I should just hush up!!

Have we figured out if it's just one browser? I'm not having these problems with firefox.

I find that hitting the refresh button usually works. Only have this problem on AR.

I use IE and it definitely seems that pages on AR take MUCH longer to completely load then in the past. If you try to navigate or click anything before the page loads, it tends to not respond. I find if you wait a few seconds for ALL of the various things to load, they you can more easily navigate and/or use the back button.
