I would love some suggestions for an interesting quick bread or biscuit to go with a very thick and rich oxtail stew. There are lots of turnips carrots and parsnips in the stew so it is a bit sweet. Anything with horseradish is always welcome. Thanks!

I've made these a time or two and they are pretty good and very simple. Thanks for the reminder, manella.

we like these with a good hearty stew- wow haven't had oxtail in 4-ever- just talking with a couple at the grocery the other day- we were commenting how expensive it is now- as they used to give them away at the back door of the butcher shop-lol

I would love to try these rolls but yeast and I are mortal enemies!lol. I haven't had oxtail in a while and I had forgotten how rich of a stew you get with it. My mother raises a few head of beef every year. We all share in the meat and it was my turn for the tail. I do understand the expense though- there is only one per animal after all.

When you use vegetable juice cocktail in a simple, fast biscuit instead of milk, you'll get a rosy, tender, savory treat.

These are very good ! I tried them a couple of wks . ago . I thought about using liners in the pan , so I asked here . I ended up greasing 9 of the wells , and using liners in 3 . The liners stuck to the muffins like crazy ! They were the paper liners , and may have worked alright if they were the foil lined ones , as Goodfood suggested .

'I received the recipe for these pretty biscuits from a neighbor,' relates Joann Alexander of Center, Texas. 'She called me 10 years later to ask for the recipe because she lost her copy. She was so glad she'd shared it with me!'

I love horseradish too! You could make a compound butter with horseradish and slather it on your favorite biscuit recipe, or, even easier, buy a loaf of good chewy Italian bread at the bakery.

The compound butter is a great idea! Thanks, PennyRoo (cute name) I might try stirring a bit of horseradish into the biscuit dough, too.

I have two Maine coon cats, brother and sister, named for Maine counties: Penobscot (Miss Penny) and Aroostook (Mr. Roo) -- hence the name PennyRoo. I love them dearly!
