If I add fresh basil into lasagna, should I add into the meat mixture or the cottage cheese/ricotta mixture?

I usually put my seasoning in the ground meat but I have a couple of lasagna recipes that have you put the herbs in the cheese mixture. So, I guess whatever you feel would make it taste the best.

You'll notice it more if you put it in the cheese mixture. If you really like basil put it in both!

I put it in the meat, along with parsley. I also add parsley to the cheese mixture, don't see why you couldn't do the same with basil.

I do it this way http://allrecipes.com/recipe/worlds-best-lasagna/ so it's in the meat sauce, but not browned with the meat. I make a double batch of this sauce and use it in other pasta dishes so I would really miss the seasonings if theweren't't in it.

I would do the cheese mixture because the contrast of the green and white would be lovely.

I think I WILL add it to the cheese mix. You're right, it'll be very lovely! I have always added parsley into the cheese mix too! Thank you so much for your help everyone!!

Coming from an Italian family and learning how to cook from my Grandmother, I put it in both the meat and cheese mixtures. It really folds together nicely and brings the final taste together.

Hi, using fresh, unusual for me, I would add into cheese sauce but taste re flavour and how combines with spices etc in meat sauce. RIght is great. Just take care. cheers.
