When you put porkchops in a slowcooker with saurkraut, should I brown the chops first?

I do. It gives it great color and flavor. A touch of brown sugar (1-2 Tbs.) in the saurkraut is also great. This is one of my favorite dishes. Love it with mashed potatoes.
