what about just in a skillet on the stove top and then finish off by broiling in the oven?

Will the skillet make it greasy tasting?

i make them in a cast iron skillet - no oil- just brown right up- we like them as sandwiches or as a main with sauerkraut-- whaatever sides you like:-)

Skillet won't make them greasy just nice and browned. Finish them in the oven set for 375°.

This is the recipe I was going to recommend- it's really good! Adjust the ingredients to what you have on hand, very flexible recipe. I added some tomato sauce near the end just to zing it up.

For such a simple recipe with so few ingredients, the flavor here is incredibly deep. The onions come out creamy and are the perfect companion to broiled or grilled sausages. This is excellent served with mashed potatoes.

what about cutting them in half- long ways=broiling - maybe even on a cooling rack to keep out of the grease??

i don't eat brats but make them for hubby- i boil for like 3 minutes- gets rid of the fat - then cut in 1/2 long ways- and fry in the skillet- works great- no grease:-)

This is super good with Italian sausage. We are getting hammered with snow aren't we? Just shovelled 1/2 of my drive way and thought I was going to croak!
