Is there a substitute for shortening in chocolate dipped strawberries? Going to the store isn't an option right now. TIA!

is it to thin the chocolate? then I use canola oil or any light oil you have.

I was gonna suggest olive oil. But read recently where others suggested subbing in butter. Here's the link:

You could use unsalted butter, but shortening is really the only good option because it makes the chocolate smooth enough to dip but then will firm up afterwards. Your best bet is to simply dip the strawberries in plain melted chocolate. (If you have paraffin wax, you can use that, but it's not something most people have on hand.)
