Looks like turtle soup will have to be put on hold. The weather isnt looking good so I am going to put off going to the store. I would of liked to make the lobster bisque recipe that was reccommended but I used the last of my milk this morning and dont have any cream. Thinking about making crab cakes and some shrimp fried rice on the side. Any good crab cake ideas? I would just put the crab in the rice but I want to do something to make the crab stand out since it was so delicious. Any good recipies out there? Ive never made them before.

Don't abandon the Bisque Equal parts oil and flour to create a roux with some broth will save the day.

Sorry for my naïveness but... turtle soup is actually made with turtles? If so, I never ever heard you could actually eat turtles :) lol... I'm a northern girl!

U can but I wont! My wife tells me about her grandparents who lived in Chinatown. She remembers a large turtle in the bath tub waiting to be dinner@#$%^&*()_

It is actually made with turtles. After reading recipies it looks like they also put in veal, beef or pork too. The one I had was at a very nice resturant and I dont remember there being a whole lot of meat so they might have only used turtles. It was so good. Next time I go to New Orleans I will be eating there again. I would have never ordered it but it was at my Dad's wedding and it was one of the courses. I am always up for trying new things and I am glad I did! :)

Bon Appetito After reading some of the reviews on some recipes it kinda grosed me out when they started to explain the process of butchering the thing. Aparrently after you cut the head off you have to keep a good hold on it bc it will run away! Now thats just grose! I dont mind not using turtle meat now. Ill stick with the mock versions.

Misty thanks for the recipe! Do you think it will work without eggs? I was thinking even a little bit of an Asian twist on them too since I am making shrimp fried rice. Maybe add some ginger and soy sauce instead of worscheshire.

I love crab cakes but do not agree with the rice. I believe it draws flavor. U might want to try this just replace the tuna with the crab. Fish Patties

Quick and easy turtle candies! Mini pretzels, caramel covered chocolate candies, and pecans make up this delicious treat.
