Totally OT, but I love you guys & all your wonderful ideas (!). Hubby just gave me the okay to redo my laundry room. I have quite a bit of space available (8x10 room) and would love something *interesting* in there besides the usually laundry stuff. What's the most interesting / unusual but still functional thing would could/would recommend? I'm leaning towards a doggy bath area, but...

I would add a keepsake room, like having old school trophies, and other stuff you REALLY want to remember, things you wrote as a child, etc.

Tabby, what a wonderful idea! That would certainly turn it into a warm welcoming region of the home (vs the cluttered messy space it is now). I don't have any trophies of my own, but perhaps if I put hubbies in there, I might actually get him in there :)

is your laundry area directly off of bath ? my brother put a dresser in laundry area (he actually put them back to back like island in center at first and then moved to wall) and then installed clothes rods entire length of two walls (with braces in center). All of laundry gets put away directly in that room and then kids use it as dressing room after showers. I love it, wish I had the room. Freed up lots more room in kids rooms too.

Unfortunatly, no - it's off the kitchen. Your brothers set up sounds wonderfully efficient though - makes me wonder why more laundry areas aren't set up towards the bedroom areas? Or maybe I've just always lived in older homes (grin)

Not sure how interesting it is, but mine has a full closet for hanging clothes. I also have a pull down iron. But, you mentioned not having the usual laundry stuff, so I love the dog bath area!

! A mini fridge ! What a great idea. I'm awfully close to kitchen, but boy that makes me think of perhaps something with wine? A wine fridge? Thank you so much - I'm definately going to play with that.

My "want" would bea nice area to wrap gifts with a cupboard/drawer big enough for wrapping papper, ribbon, tissue, gift bags, tape, scissors etc. I never know what I have in my bin at the bottom of my hall closet!! :D

Not really an addition but would dress it up- I have seen washer/dryer (if front loading)encased in a finished wood frame with wide cabinet-type doors across the front and a counter over the top. Hides the machines when not in use and real usefull work-serving space on top.

Oh, Iray - now that's something I didn't think of - I like that idea. Thank you so much.

My laundry is off the kitchen too. My husband added a second pantry in there for my "carry over" stuff from the kitchen pantry.

Koalagirl, that's what my husband suggested and I know it's practical ... and would certainly come in handy, but I have to admit I'm not in a practical mood today. Foolish, perhaps, but I'm tired of being sensible and want something fun and unusual.

I saw a picture of a small wall mounted tv in the laundry room...kinda cool.

I've always wanted a multi-purpose room. Would want a big table & a big sink with the kind of counters on both sides that drain into the sink. The sink with a tall faucet & sprayer would be large enough to wash those big platters & pans, a small dog. To wash veggies from the garden, re-pot plants, arrange flowers. The table for folding clothes, spreading out cookies to ice & dry, wrapping gifts, craft projects. An old ladder or lattice suspended from the ceiling to hang herbs & flowers to dry. I saw a picture of a large dog bath area that was like a short tiled shower stall. This could also be used to step in & rinse feet after the beach or garden.

We store swimsuits in ours. With 4 grandsons visiting often, we go through a lot of them. They're in open shelving, ready to go. When the kids are dry and changed, they toss the wet gear, suits and towels, into the dryer. This works far better than their old method of tossing wet suits over towel and shower rods in the bathroom. Much better!

Are you on Pinterest? There are a TON of laundry room ideas on there. You should check it out. If I had the space, I'd have front loaders with a counter built over-top that you can use for a folding table, and then I'd have a an open shelf (for handy things) and cabinets above to hide the not so pretty things. If I had a lot of room, like it sounds like you do, I'd for sure throw in the dog bath, maybe a built in wine rack and some storage shelves for storing items that I've canned (no basement, so this is my dream). Post pictures when it's done!!!

For sure, a big deep sink for washing garden things, boots, bigger kitchen items, a small dog...
