another slightly OT but food related. Bought a pound of Ground Angus Chuck at walmart on Dec. 26. (don't typically buy meats at walmart so not sure of quality there) Package of ground beef accidently fell behind desk and we just found it. It was against same wall as thermostat so has been at a constant 68 degrees for 4 weeks.

I can't believe it hasn't smelled us out of the house ! But, I showed it to hubby who used to work for meat cutter - I swear the color and texture of meat looked like I purchased it today ! Had I not seen date on package and known when I had shopped at walmart I wouldn't have believed it. Could there be that much preservative in meat that says 100% beef ?

and, no, I haven't cooked it, it went straight out to garbage. and no, I won't be tempted to buy meat at walmart again - for any reason !

That is scary! I can't believe it didn't smell and that it was still fresh looking. Makes me feel a little sick. I'm not crazy about Walmart meat but I do buy it occasionally. Not any more!

there was a storm moving in, I had run to town early and just thought surely 100% angus would be ok to make a pot of chili. glad we didn't end up using it. Now I know why I only use local butchers and buy organic local meat as much as they can provide.

WHOA!that's almost disturbing! not only does it have preservatives (from what they feed the cattle) but they also put red dye or perhaps food colouring in to make it look fresh forever!

My sister had a package of hamburger from Walmart that got pushed against the back of her fridge and overlooked for weeks and when she found it it was bright red and looked a fresh as the day she bought it. I thought they stopped putting pink slime in meat but Walmart certainly puts SOMETHING in there. Disgusting!

I believe they(the big they, not just WM) treat meat with carbon monoxide to make it look fresh whether it is or not. I didn't realize it could work for that extended period of time though so maybe something else?

Guess you can say it's a good thing it got pushed aside! Ewww...a perfect example of why I stopped buying meat from Walmart many, many years ago, and apparently it's still a good decision! Wow...

I agree, but add that eating from Mc Donalds, Burger King,Wendy's etc. all those places that sell a fully loaded hamburger for 1$ let's you know, what kind of food your eating. I never eat at fast food places. It cost's me more than 5$ to buy what looks like a fully loaded hamburger and cook at home. So it must be pretty cheap stuff going into there hamburgers,, just sayin'
