DH did the shopping again & brought home elephant garlic. I just read that it isn't garlic but a bulb related to leeks with a subtle sweet flavor & is a poor substitute for garlic. Does anyone use this & what would be its best use? Thanks.

I bought it once and used it like garlic. I didn't notice any difference.

I love it added to mashed potatoes. I just toss a few cloves in the water while I boil the spuds and mash it all together.

Thank you iceemama. I bought it a couple of years ago & was disappointed in the lack of flavor.

Thank you BigShotsMom. I like that idea. I was thinking could add it to a soup. It is a huge head though.

hubby loves you. he didn't know the difference from regular garlic. yes, elephant garlic is a type of leek. it is the best sweetest garlic you can buy. certainly don't use the whole head for 1 dish. i love garlic...and this is excellent stuff. take baby steps here...

I wait until it goes to seed, then use the seeds in soups and garlic bread! I have it growing in my yard! Sometimes, I even use the leaves in cooking!

I roast my elephant garlic and spread it on crusty bread, served with a pasta dish, of course. It's really very good.
