Greek Recipe search: I ate at a local Greek Restaurant and after reading the menu and considering my food allergies the waitress spoke to the chef and he made me something. It was wonderful, it was coarsely ground lamb with an orange colored creamy sauce. I would guess it was paprika or some other red spice that gave it the color, or perhaps a combination of that and tomato sauce. It may have had yogurt as well. I returned to the restaurant some time later and asked for it again, unfortunately by description only, but apparently there was a different chef, who tried, but failed at making something similar it. It has been quite awhile now, so I can't give any other ideas as to the spices used in it. I am hoping it is something traditional and the orange colored sauce will be the giveaway. Any suggestions welcome. I have scanned Greek recipes on-line and even bought a Greek cookbook, but so far have not found anything that looks like it. The consistency was almost that of sloppy Joe's. Very flavorful and served with rice. May have had onions in it, but no other vegetables.

Pastitsio is a layered Greek casserole of macaroni and seasoned ground lamb, topped with a thick cream sauce. This version substitutes beef in place of the lamb to suit American tastes.

What about just the meat sauce from pastitsio? It uses ground lamb in a spiced tomato sauce, and would be sloppy joe consistency.

Unfortunatly/fortunatly you stumbled onto a real cook, he probably concocted the recipe from his experience. My guess is that the orange colour from the sauce was probably saffron and yoghurt is a mainstay in Greek cooking so that was definitely present. Can't help you with the rest.

Roasted Red Pepper Chicken

Enjoy roasted sweet red peppers stuffed inside boneless chicken breasts and topped with a tasty sour cream sauce that is infused with more red peppers. A sprinkling of feta cheese adds savory little notes to every delicious mouthful.

you may can work off this as a base- with adjustments according to allergies-(for the sauce)
