Please forgive my ignorance on this ingredient, but having never used it, I know hard to believe but I have two large bags of pearl barley. I need recipes or tips on how to use this if you please. I am so ashamed. You'd think at my age I'd know this. I've just never come across it before. Any information or help would really be appreciated. Thank you folks. Will try to check back later, or in the morning.

I've grown to love barley. I make Alton Brown's recipe for both Baked Barley and Baked Brown Rice. I use them in soups, wraps, casseroles . . .

I use it in soup,but i cook it seperate,when it's cooked,put some in your bowl and then add the soup.I find if you cook it with the soup,and you have leftovers,the barley swells up and gets yukky.Hope this helps.

I use barley in soup and stews all the time. This is a favorite with my teens and economical, the addition of barley not only stretches the soup but fills them up! I use it in my beef barley soup also. I have also used it in cold salads but love it in stews and soups. Just add to broth and simmer :D

You can use it in place of rice if you want. I cook it and add it to soup. I do not like it cooked in soup as it tends to get over cooked and mushy.

It freezes really well to so it is simple to keep on hand.

Make a Mushroom Barley Soup... I'm sure there's a recipe onine for that. It's delicious!
