MATTSBELLY is looking for: (13 recommendations)
Good morning! So, my husband thinks he hates cornbread... His Mom's was always "dry and gritty". I want to make some for dinner and hopefully change his mind. I've never made it before. Any favorite recipes? Thanks!

If you like sweet cornbread, this is the recipe for you! My mom made this for me as a child, and now it's my family's favorite.

Looks yummy! Do you think I can make my own buttermilk for this recipe? You know, milk and vinegar? Do you think that will work? Thanks!

Don't really want to go to the store. I feel like ... Making beans and franks for football later for the guys. Thought corn bread would go well too. Never made either. Thanks for replying!

When you buy a quart of buttermilk for a recipe just take the remainder and pour it into an ice cube tray and freeze. Then take the "ice cubes" and put them in a freezer bag. You can pull out and thaw whatever you need for future use. I do it all the time.

After making this the first time, I threw away my old tried and true recipe. Now this is the only cornbread recipe I make! It has a very cake-like consistency, just the way we like it :)

This is my favorite. Serve it to him with a nice bowl of chili.

Just make sure you serve the cornbread warm with butter. Even my picky kids will eat this recipe. As for the buttermilk I always use the vinegar and milk method.

This buttermilk cornbread is thick with creamed corn, Cheddar cheese, fresh onion and jalapeno pepper. A melted Cheddar crust tops it off.

This has got to be the tastiest and the most moist cornbread I have ever made. It is the most requested thing I cook, so I am sharing it. Don't let the ingredients fool you. It's unbelievable.

We love this cornbread. It need some changes tho, I do 1/2 cup butter plus one T more. and lower the sugar to 1/2 cup. It's very moist and flavorful.

Interesting twist. Definitely will try this one if I can get him to eat a more traditional one. Serving it with beans and franks which I've never made either.... Thanks so much! You always suggest great recipes!

This is our family's favorite cornbread! I don't use the entire amount of butter either, though. It's great! I've made it many times.

I have tried the popular ones but gave them a four so this recipe is my next to-try list because I'm still trying to find one that's moist like marie calendars.

If you have a box of Jiffy, try this: Add 8 oz sour cream, one egg, 1/4 cup sugar, about 1/2 cup frozen corn, and enough milk to make a pancake-like batter. Then bake according to package directions until a toothpick comes out clean. It's a really moist cornbread, and just a little sweet.

No Jiffy here. But thanks anyway!

Use jiffy mix cornbread, mix with one egg and milk, not water and a teaspoon of sugar. put in a cast iron skillet if you have one, are a cake pain with a little oil in the bottom. Best cornbread ever. Or if you want to go from scratch, get a bag of yellow cornmeal follow the recipe on the back, but use milk and one teaspoon of sugar. Make sure the mixture is smooth and that should get rid of the gritty taste.

Im not sure if your looking for homemade recipe but I can tell you how I have always made mine. I have always used the little cheap jiffy box at the store and follow the directions when I fix mixing I add in a good amount of honey. My boyfriend loves it. Just watch it while in the oven because the honey will cause it to burn faster. Its easy and cheap. Good luck.

This corn bread goes well with just about anything. I always make it when we have chili. The sour cream makes it nice and moist.

This is SOOOOOO good. Use half cup sour cream and add a whole can of cream corn. Moist and creamy but not gooey. My go to recipe.

I haven't looked at these recommended recipes but when I make cornbread, I will set the mixture aside in it's baking pan, for 30 minutes before baking it. It seems to become smoother because more liquid is absorbed.
