I want to know, what do I put on apple slices, banana slices and avocado slices to keep the slices from turn- ing brown? Lemon juice makes.it taste funny.

i just put a couple of tablespoon lemon juice in about a cup of water- let them sit in it for a few minute- then drain- just plain lemon is too strong:-)

There was a discussion about apple slices a week or so ago. Maybe someone has the link to it? One person suggested salted water for apple slices-that's what my mom used (before lemons were easily found and before carbonated drinks were commonly found). Some used Sprite or 7Up, and Fruit Fresh was mentioned. And you can dilute the lemon juice a bit so it doesn't alter the taste of the fruit. I really don't have any ideas with banana and avocadoes; hopefully someone else will.

I, too, would love to know the trick to keeping avocadoes from browning (we use half at a time, and so far we only place the other half in a snack-size ziploc bag, squeezing all the air out as humanly possible.) Re: apples, I never cared for the lemon juice - too tart...I've found that pineapple juice is a much better option. Tastes more similar to apple (sweet, not tart) and simply tossing them in the juice then discarding works fine (rather than soaking.) Buy the little 6 pack of cans and you only need to use one can (or part of!) at a time...wish the remaining juice would stay better longer, but it doesn't keep well for long once opened.
