DairyQueen is looking for: (1 recommendation)
Please excuse my *unsmartness*, but what are capers? Is it some type of canned fish? All I can imagine when opening a can is tiny worms, so to speak. Are they salty? Are they packed in water? Thanks bunches for your post(s).

They are pickled flower buds. Look sort of like a tiny olive to me. They are salty and you usually find them near the olives in the store. They are packed in a liquid. Not sure if it is water or a brine.

Kathy- if you scroll down - to the right you will see how they come at the grocery- tallish thin jar about as big around as a quarter- mama used them alot- salty and crunchy- i don't know any other way to describe- if you like green olives you may love these:-)

As a side note, I hate green olives but I like black. I have never eaten a caper by itself but I have had them in recipes before and they were fine.

I thought capers were fish for a long time, too (until seeing them in a vegetarian recipe and having to look it up). Glad to know I'm not the only one :)

Too cute! I'll bet you were thinking of "kippers" which are small, smoked herring, popular in the UK. :) Made me smile!

nanny you sound like me and my husband. If there is a group of candy and green are my favorite, green are his least favorite. It actually works out kind of nice but always makes me laugh!
