Many years ago an officemate shared a recipe I can no longer find. A "unstuffed" cabbage roll casserole. Chopped cabbage, sauerkraut, rice, ground beef, pasta sauce. I don't recall any measurements or how long to bake to get cabbage cooked but other ingredients not overdone. Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks. Similar. I remember cooking ground beef. Making white rice. Chopping cabbage. Mixing all together with sauerkraut and sauce and baking (so cabbage cooked in juices.) I guess I will just wing it - problem is - I hate sauerkraut and cabbage so can't taste test for doneness or seasoning and wanted to have dinner ready for hubby.

Ground beef is seasoned and simmered with cabbage and rice in a zesty tomato sauce. This recipes cuts the time of baking cabbage rolls and it tastes just as good!

Here's a five-generation family favorite. Parboiled cabbage leaves are stuffed with a mix of ground beef, ground pork, and rice, layered with sauerkraut and bacon, and baked.

Pour remaining can of tomato sauce over the sauerkraut, cover roaster with foil and place in oven. Bake for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until cabbage is tender and most of the moisture is absorbed. I so appreciate you asking this. I have a huge head of cabbage in my fridge that needs to be used. I have made the Slovak recipe before and loved it and that's what I was intending on doing. Now that I've seen this, I have no idea why it never occurred to me before to do it casserole style. I'm definitely going to do this also.
