So, I got a new DSLR camera for Christmas. My old camera was a point and shoot camera. Now I go to load my photos on to a recipe and get an error message photo more than 4MB, so won't take my photo. I checked and seems the higher my ISO setting the larger the file size. My point and shoot were never even over a MB. How do you add your photos to allrecipes? I can add these to Facebook or my other websites, but allrecipes won't allow the larger sized photos.

Two things....Do you have any editing software? you can re-save the file and "dumb it down" using it. I think somewhere there is also an option when saving to "save for web" that may shrink. The megapixels they are putting out these days are way overrated and unnecessary in my opinion.

secondly...You can probably change the settings on your camera but that depends on what you want in regard to your other photos. I wouldn't reduce data just for this site but like I said, i think the larger megapixel cameras can be total space hogs. What kind of camera?

Sherri - there are free re-sizing programs out there. I change the settings on my camera so that my pics will fit AR's limitations. I hate re-sizing.

I got a new camera too Sherri. I upload my photos to my computer, instead of directly loading from the camera to the AR site. Since I have I Photo on my Mac or Photoshop on my HP Laptop that is where the photos go. I don't have a problem when I add them to AR even if I crop the photos.

Hey all, sorry my door bell rang right when I asked my question. I do load my photos to Picasa from my camera. I did find where I can size them on the camera, right now they're in large, so when I take a food photo I'll try medium and see what happens. I'm just a bit over the size right now so that should work. Thanks for the help everybody, much appreciated.

Don't confuse resizing/cropping for storing at a lower resolution. Most digital cameras have adjustable settings for the resolution (i.e. # of pixels) the picture will be stored. Higher resolution is good for making enlargements and/or cropping a portion of the picture to enlarge. You often need to save the picture at a lower resolution for websites like AR, since the postage stamp size pictures shown here don't need to be enlargeable to poster size.

This site will take a pretty big pic. I size all of mine 1800 x 1200 with a 300 res. It's a pretty big picture and it loads easily.

Just in case anyone looks back here, I did crop the photos a bit more and that took them down below the 4MB.
