I'm thinking of buying a bread machine, seems I remember seeing something about it here but cannot find it... I'm wondering if it's worth the cost if I only use up 1-2 breads/week? and are there any good gluten free bread recipes or is that just a myth? Any recommendations as to prefered machines? Thanks, and Happy New Year to all :)

I have had 3 different bread machines over the past 15 years. I have a Cuisinart right now, and I love it! This one came with a lot of different recipes, plus I still have the books that came with the other machines. You can set it up in the morning and set a timer so you have warm bread with your dinner or set it at night and have warm bread in the morning! There are a lot of different things you can do with it. I sometimes just make the dough, take it out and make the bread in the oven, too. My family thinks it is one of the best inventions ever!

NCcook I love all the products I own by Cuisinart, which bread machine do you have, the CBK-100 or CBK-200?

I would suggest going to a thrift store. They always have several to choose from and most look like they never got used. They sell for around $10 - $15.

How about a Zojirushi? I thought they were better? Anybody have any idea?

Looked at some feedbacks for different machines, Cuisinart does not seem too appreciated, apparently breaks down often... Zojirushi does seem the best but is way more expensive...

Gluten-Free White Bread for Bread Machines

A basic white bread recipe without the gluten. Easily made in your bread machine! Xanthan gum and the exotic flours are usually easily found in your local health food store.

I have tried bread machines over the years. Our first was the best. Since that one, I have been disappointed. I now use the no knead recipe Mark Bittman's made famous. Here is the YouTube link http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=13Ah9ES2yTU Simple easy and delicous

I have owned 2 bread machines in the past and neither did as good a job as my stand mixer. Those tiny twirling blades don't knead the dough nearly as well as a mixer which is much more powerful and can be used for many recipes. There is probably a reason so many bread machines can be found in thirft stores and some won't accept any additional ones. Gluten free bread is challenging and requires a LOT of specialized ingredients. Even then, you tend to get something that is more cake-like then bread recipes.
