Hi..after some advice please. Our butcher (who sources his own meat and smokes his hams himself) asked for an early pick up for xmas. So I have the ham, it's not incased in anything (removed the plastic carry bag)...anyway I asked my partner to pick it up and he was told to do the ham bag and vinegar thing every 3 days. I always assumed they only lasted a couple of weeks....does anyone know how long a free range, naturally smoked ham will last for? It's for xmas day but it's huge. Also does glazing the ham shorten it's life span (sorry couldn't think of a better term...I know terrible description). Thanks for any advice...especially from the "pros" :)

Return to butcher and get his advice of how to take care of the ham. For an informed response, we need to know if the smoking process cooked the ham or partially cooked it. Even with that information, we cannot help you as much as you butcher- he knows how to handle his products.
