Good morning peeps. Annual Christmas Eve soup party is coming up fast! I make two soups. This year I'm doing Cindy's Clam Chowder, trying to decide on the second. So I'm looking for some contrast, most likely broth based and some veg in there. Make ahead scores bonus points. Looking forward to your suggestions, thanks!

This is my variation of a standard recipe. I like fresh basil and a little lemon rind, so those are basically my only changes. This is a quick and easy soup with flavors that impress all.

Savvy: Does your family like lentils? This is fabulous! Used to be available here, but it's a victim of the Taste of Home debacle...http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/Hearty-Lentil-Soup

I hate vegetables so this is not for me, but everyone else loves it. It does need extra flavoring and extra liquid since the barley absorbs so much as it sits. It's better if it's made ahead so the flavors blend.
