Darn! I've been baking today and I totally messed up one of my old faves, Sandies. AKA as Mexican Wedding Cakes, Russian Tea Cakes, etc. They came out flat as a pancake! This has never happened before and I'm stumpted. I have a brand new stove and never bothered to check the oven temp, I just assumed it's right. I didn't make them last year, but did the previous 10 years or so. I did try a new recipe that had me sifting the flour so maybe that was it. Oh, I also used my kitchen aid stand mixer and I usually mix them by hand. Any thoughts?

Don't know what happend to yours,but i used my kitchen aid when i made zucchihi loaves,and i always mixed by hand also,came out flat also.Maybe should not have tried to mess with waht always worked before.What do you think?

I think you are right manella, we shouldn't have messed with a good thing. I am very careful to never overmix with my stand mixer so I'm thinking it was something else. I will try again with the cookies, mixing by hand and hope that fixes it.

Could be your baking soda. It has such a short shelf life, and you never know how long it's been on the store shelf before it gets to your pantry. Test it by putting 1/4 tsp in a glass and adding 2 tsp vinegar. If it bubbles and fizzes very actively, it's fine.

I always use my KA for both my breads and tea cakes. I'm guessing as CC stated or a mismeasurement somewhere.

Too much butter, not enough flour? I too mix these by hand so it could be that as well.
