Shredded Cheddar cheese is baked right into this easy meat loaf. Brown sugar, ketchup, and a touch of mustard make a delicious, sweet and tangy crust.

Alton Brown makes a GREAT meatloaf. It's the standard meat with ketchup, but taken up a level. It's a little extra work with the veggies, but soooo worth it. Hope this helps! here's a link to the recipe:

A meatloaf mixture of ground beef, cheese, and quick-cooking oats is formed into individually sized loaves. They are glazed with a sauce of ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard.

No-fail meatloaf calls for ground beef, onions, egg, milk, and bread. It is topped with a mix of brown sugar, mustard, and ketchup before baking.

Hi IBBZ! I favour using "Triple Mix" that we get locally...one third ground beef, ground pork and ground veal as opposed just ground beef, but I would beusing regular ground instead of lean ground. I use bread crumbs or panko crumbs, (even crushed Ritz Crackers!) and a beaten egg or two as a binder. BBQ sauce as opposed ketchup, and mustard should/can be added as well. Either fine chopped onion or onion powder. Grated Garlic, S+P, and I like my variety of herbs and spices that would include rosemary, smoked paprika, even dill and basil, . Like DS's suggestion of adding a half cupof full sour cream, as the fattiness adds a bunch to the taste. Two ways to go from there. You could use grated Asiago or, better yet, Blue Cheese, or you could start adding sugars, like brown sugar, (as has been said) or maple syrup. Beat it all with a fork, that it is not "compacted" but rather just glued together, and gently form it into a loaf. Based on doing it with one pound of meat, the "loaf" should take 35 minutes at a pre-heated 375 oven to complete, topped with a few slices of thick cut bacon (double smoked if thats possible), and this may leave you with enough drippings to form a gravy. Mashed spuds, carrots and peas, and this moves over to the comfort food category...
