Has anyone tried making the 'clone of a cinnabon' recipe ahead of time( aside from the baking part). I have a brunch on Saturday, but would like to get as much prep done ahead of time as possible. TIA!

Yes. You can get it to the point of having them all fixed in the pan for the second rise. But instead of the second rise, cover them, put them in the fridge, and leave them until morning. Then take them out for about half an hour or so to warm up before baking. Yum!

I always put part of the icing on the buns when they first come out of the oven so it seeps down into the rolls. Then after they've cooled off, that's the time to finish putting it on for the beautiful finish.

I have made them in advance many times, you can make them the day ahead and as Marianne says, bake next morning, or you can freeze them before the last rise, defrost and rise and bake.
