When recipes call for sour cream. How do you know if its liquid or the solid in the little containers; or is it preference of the cook? Thank you for any advise on this topic.

I always assume it is the solid in containers. I think soured cream is written differently.

It would be the sour cream that comes in the tubs--usually 8 oz, 16 oz or 32 oz. I think if it meant the sour cream in the squeeze bottles, it would specify. But what do I Know--I'm not a PRO.

Maybe in Canada it is available in different forms, but here in the US, sour cream isn't really solid/liquid. The consistency is more like yogurt. Typically that is hte product called for in modern recipes.

Thank you so much for clearing up this question. Our sour cream is like a yogurt so that helps. I will just carry on as I have been, cause apparently I have been doing it right. Surprize, Surprize. Thank you all again for your taking the time to post.
