If I cook tomato soup in a crock pot overnight do you think it will burn or overcook ? Id like it to be ready for a thermos 1st thing in the morn..

Hi Johnny, is it homemade soup?

Most of the recipes I looked at only show cooking it on low for about 5 hours. Overnight might be a little long. Does it have a timer you can set?

If it is your own homemade soup, it depends on the recipe and the crockpot,i have cooked things all night in a crock pot or slow cooker on low and it was fine, again it depends on your recipe and slowcooker, some run hotter than others.

then i would leave it on low and if you happen to get up in the night you could check on it. When i made pulled pork in the slow cooker all night i kept waking up because the smell of food cooking keeps me awake off and on. it souds yummy, Enjoy!!

If you don’t want to buy a programmable slow cooker, consider buying an automatic timer . . . this is a real simple, cheap one . . . http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Conserve-Socket-F7C009q-Energy-Saving/dp/B003P2UMS0 . . . many different ones depending on budget & what you need to do. Or set an alarm, turn off the slow cooker, and return to bed.

In my experience, soup has been okay for longer than that. Just remember to pre-heat your thermos with some boiling water to keep the soup hot in the thermos.

Bravo for making the effort to take your own lunch - it sounds delicious. My slow cooker only has two settings too and the high runs SUPER hot. I would be hesitant to put it on low for longer than 5 hours - so I would go to bed at midnight and get up at 5 heehee And be tired all the next day. Seriously tho' - depending on your crock it should probably work. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.
