Serve this flavorful dish of rotisserie chicken, andouille sausage, colorful bell peppers, onions, and garlic simmered in your favorite BBQ sauce as a hearty sandwich filling or over rice.

I made lasagna one year after all the complaining about how no one liked turkey anyway. OMG the whining and moaning about that one! There is no pleasing them.

lol, agree. i think the folks now truly understand how much i hate the same things i make every year. but since thanksgiving is the 1st big holiday they demand the same menu. no variations, no experimenting with a new menu, technique, etc. so i'm bored silly, but i do love them. i only make "the" potatos twice a year, unless requested for birthdays.

I made pizza three years ago, sandwiches two years ago, and spaghetti last year. LOL. No one in this house likes turkey so we skip the tradition and go for food we all like. Weird? Probably, but true. However, this year my kids (13 and 11) are requesting "a normal Thanksgiving like their friends" so I guess I'm back to turkey and the trimmings. Sigh...... I was kinda enjoy the time off. :-)

Maybe you could sneak something new in. Make the regular menu plus something that interest you so your not so bored. I do that or did that I stopped because it seemed like each year my menu would get bigger as my family would say your gonna make that again aren't you! Now I only get to cook every other year and the menu on the year I don't cook doesn't change a little bit. I swear she cloned the dinner years ago and just thaws one out each year because even the taste never changes, the beans are same exact rubbery half done, the turkey exactly the same dryness and don't get me going on the potatoes shhhs! And to enjoy this meal you get to sit side ways because there is not enough room for the amount of guest she invites.I love the year I cook there are 5 of us and the menu is flexible except the turkey.

This spicy and garlicky turkey recipe can be made a day in advance of your Thanksgiving dinner, potluck, or dinner party in order to save time. It's a wonderful dish with just the right amount of spice that will fill your whole neighborhood with an enchanting aroma.

dang after entering the rest of the story...lost it!~ ok, i have to get a 35 buck flu shot to get a free publix bird. i HATE shots, esp. the flu shot. it always makes me sick. no one else will/can get the shot. i hate turkey, but the crowd demands traditional. fine, i'll be sneezing all over that meal. ya got a gripe about the up-coming holiday...feel free to post them here.

I have a gripe about early Christmas not Thanksgiving. I have already gotten 3 invitations for Christmas cookie exchange parties and a neighbor 2 blocks away has put up and turned on Christmas lights. I just want to enjoy Thanksgiving!

gderr, do you have a Costco membership? I think they are charging $15 for their shots. Take the extra money and buy the bird on sale.
Nov. 13, 2012 5:08 pm
Can't you get a bird for less than $35 and take your chances with the flu? If not, quit being such a cupcake and take your shot!

^^^said with love, of course! :-)

hi need a flu shot? i'm buying, lol :)
Nov. 13, 2012 5:30 pm
Marie C. . . . I think I saw a sign in Costco today saying $16.99 for a flu shot. You don’t need to be a member to get a flu shot there as it works like prescriptions where you pay a higher price if not a member. So if gderr didn't want to come out of pocket for the membership fee, you're idea is still good. Just don't know if there is a Costco in his vicinity.
Nov. 13, 2012 5:32 pm
forget that idea . . . no Costco there.

Long time ago I used to get a flu shot when my oldest son dated a nurse. She was GREAT. Now, I seldom "go out" so my exposure is reduced and I'm 1/2 scared of the things. My friend got one three weeks ago and her arm STILL hurts. (That would be unfortunate)

I've had my flu shot already!! I went to the doc for mine, but our county health depts regularly hold "drive by's" for them where the people don't even have to get out of their cars!

Hey Gary, I thought about doing the same Gary but the frozen birds (which are all that qualify) were on sale so cheap that it wasn't worth it. In my neck they are 0.59/lb this week. At 16 lb max, not worth the shot if you don't really want one (like mimosa said). And make sure their not scammin' ya. Their website says the shot is only 30 in GA. Good luck!

Look no further for the perfect bird snack! Sweet potato, banana, and raisins are mixed with dry oatmeal and rolled into snack-sized balls. This recipe makes a large batch of treats which are kept in the freezer so they're ready whenever Polly's been good!

I remember the days, not too long ago, when you got a free bird if you spent 50. Commercial running today said free bird when you spend 150. Yikes! I'd be tempted to get a dang flu shot for that deal. We LOVE us some big bird.

Here in NJ we have spend $400 to get a "FREE" bird! I actually got mine after spending "just" $300. I'm thinking the store reduced it because of Sandy...
