Taco in a Bag

This flavorful taco treat is a perfect snack to enjoy while mobile. Picnics and block parties are perfect venues for Taco in a Bag.

Casual, easy to eat while walking around, and yummy. You can have a topping bar... people can add salsa, sour cream, guacamole, etc :)

chili sounds yummy .. keep it very simple.. you'll be busy enough.. Hubby says when he sees a consession stand all he wants is a hamburg or hotdog.. and fries.. little thing of mustard and ketchup.. and you are good to go... he just went off on it... lol... says he doesn't go to a concession stand for salsa and chips or soup.. That's a mans perspective for ya

Taco in a bag is brilliant. If I were you, I would make a ton of chili... offer frito chili pie, taco in a bag, hot dogs, toppings like onions and jalapenos and cheese for those items. Maybe buy one of those big cans of nacho cheese sauce and offer nachos as well. Add in cookies or brownies or both. Maybe carmel corn? And you are set. When I think concession, I think simple food.

I have set up hundreds of fundraisers (It use to be my job), heres a few things that I have learned about anything pertaining to food 'services'.. 1. Always pick something that attracts to the masses & pick something that is not a food that has too many options. Example... Steak dinner, steak is a food that has too many different ways to prepare. I personally won't touch a steak that is not well done which means absolutely no pink. My husband won't touch a steak unless its 'moo-ing'. I know that your not going to make steak, but chili is something that people are pretty picky about. Some like it 'hot', some don't. Some people will only eat kidney beans in theirs etc. Remember, many people are picky eaters. 2. The less condiments the better! This will save on your costs & 'hassles'. Also, I have been told by several county food inspectors that condiments are the biggest reason why people get food poisoning. I also have done walking tacos with an organization. While I didn't prepare the actual food, I had to deal with the mass complaints of food poisoning, which were also linked to the condiments (go figure, I told them not to make tacos!)No offense to anyone who recommended tacos in a bag. 3. Find something that can easily be frozen or 'used up' if you have tons of extras. My suggestion to most organizations was something generally easy & appealed to the majority of people, not to mention semi-cheap to make. I often suggested sandwiches. Pulled hot turkey/chicken/pork sandwiches. The meat can be frozen & be kept in one roaster. The buns can also be frozen. A side of potato chips or something similar may be your easiest fix. You can always take un-opened packages back to the store or save them for later. Most anyone likes a plain potato chip. I personally am not a chip 'fan' but will definately eat a plain chip on the side if need be. The more food/condiments/options you have the more 'difficult' your day will be. More serving spoons/containers/people to help serve etc... Sorry if I rambled on too much. Like I said, ive done hundreds of fundraisers & events (which is what I know do aka event planning) some have been little and some have been 'big' (sit-down meal/event for 800+ people) and Ive learned from my mistakes and trust me theres been plenty! Hope this info. helps! and sorry for 'preachin'!

Nachos, hot dogs, chili cheese nachos, cookies, popsicles. For the toppings I would only do mustard, ketchup, and jalaps. This is always what I did for our churches VBS kick off party and it was always a hit. Easy and cheap. I put cans of nacho cheese in a crock pot to keep warm and cooked and kept the hot dogs in a large Nesco oven. I also kept canned chili sauce warm in a crock pot. Works wonderfully.

Muffins - you can wrap them in cellophane and they are ready to go, no fuss. Have a variety of 'flavors'. How about corn dogs, with k&M packets, no messy containers. I agree with Armywife: keep it simple. The less decisions and condiments, the better. wrapped sandwiches would be simple, but a lot of work for those assembling. Good luck Amanda!

Well I've done hundreds of concession stand stints in my day too and I'm still doing them. What time of day is yours going to be? If it's all day, make sure you have something for the morning crowd. Individually wrapped muffins (Costco), bananas and apples are good. Maybe an apple or orange juice. Coffee and hot cocoa. If it's lunch/dinner time, hot dogs, chili, my all time favorite..Chili dogs. Mustard, ketchup, relish.. nachos, the walking taco is good. chips, candy (anything sour, anything cheap like laffy taffy, or airheads)only a couple of chocolate offerings. Like Reeces, snickers, 3 musketeers. Skittles. That's plenty of candy. Will you have a popcorn machine? That smell will bring people for sure. Also, will there be kids at this auction or is it an adult function? That will determine some of the purchases. Somethings are more kid oriented.

Years ago a group I was in did a concession stand and we did something similar to tacos in a bag but used individual bags of Fritos corn chips. We made mild but flavorful chili without beans since most people will eat it without but many won't eat it with beans. It was a big hit and we made a lot of money. We kept the chili hot in crockpots and all we had to do was open a bag of Fritos, ladle some chili and top and hand it to them with a plastic spoon. You could always put out bottles of hot sauce for those who want it and not have to worry about food poisoning.
