Chef John's Classic Beef Stroganoff

This is a fairly lean version of beef stroganoff, as most recipes call for more cream. This is something you can easily adjust to your tastes. I like a little thicker version, with just enough sauce to coat the meat and noodles.

Why is it when you get a morning to sleep in you can't? Oh, curses, I should be under my covers! Hubby has gone to work and the kiddos are still asleep(no school)! Still planning on the stroganoff today. Happy Friday!

Oh wow Godzilla, I totally know what you mean. I hate that! My cats (and dog) are so used to the weekday routine, they now wake me at 5:30am on weekends to be fed. It's usually the cats more than the dog that wakes me. SO frustrating. such is life.

The dogs here don't understand the clocks changing every spring and fall. They are still waking me up too early! And dinner time doesn't change for them either!

Cabbage is simmered with home made pork meatballs in a light chicken broth. This is my family's version of lion's head soup and for me it is the best type of comfort food! It is best served with white sticky rice, and wonderful enjoyed on a cold winter day.

I really liked these. Thanks for posting them the other day. Made them last night and they tasted a lot like restaurant version. I do want to tweek the sauce a little. Not sure how yet. Enjoy chinese take-in.

I ended up making my own version of Texas Carne Guisada, sort of made it into a soup last night, since it got cold. But gonna add in some rice or beans and make enchiladas with the leftovers for tonight.

Hi, Friday and we're having fish. A return to the Btitish Raj in India. Cheers. Kedgeree 2 large Eggs - hard boiled 450g/1lb Smoked Haddock fillets - all bones removed 1 Bay Leaf 180g/6oz Basmati Rice Sea Salt 60g/2oz Ghee or Butter 1½ in/4cm fresh Ginger - grated 2oz/4tbsp Spring Onions - finely chopped 1 clove Garlic - finely chopped 2tbsp medium Curry Powder 2 Tomatoes - peeled, deseeded and chopped 1tsp Dijon Mustard Handful fresh Coriander - torn and shredded 150ml dry white Wine ½ Lemon - juice only 1 small fresh Red Chilli - seeds removed - finely chopped Directions Cook the rice, drain, cool and set aside; Boil the eggs for some 10 minutes or so, drain, cool and set aside; Place the fish and bay leaves in a shallow pan and cover with water; Bring to the boil, cover and, reducing heat, simmer for about 5 minutes or so or until fish just cooked through; Remove from pan and leave to cool; Remove the skin from fish, flake into chunks and set aside; Melt the butter in a pan over a low heat, add the ginger, onion and garlic and cook for some 5 minutes or so to soften; Add the curry powder and mustard, stir in well and cook for a further few minutes; Add the chopped tomatoes, wine and lemon juice, stir in well and, increasing heat, bring to boil; Reduce heat to gentle, add the fish and rice to the pan and, stirring gently, heat through; Shell and Quarter the eggs; Add the eggs, most of the coriander and the chilli and stir gently; Serve on plates adding the rest of the coriander as garnish.

Making these up before school. No idea about dinner - out somewhere. I've had 5 sets of basketball games in the past 6 days, getting wrestling started and swim & dive started. This time of year is exactly like the beginning of the school year when we have football, cheer, volleyball and cross country all going at the same time! Thankful that it is Friday - no middle school events on a Friday! Enjoy your weekend.

Godzilla - we have over 700 in 6,7,8th grade. Our other middle school has 850+. I do love this age, but they can be trying. Over 450+ of ours participate in some athletic event. We are very fortunate to have band, choir, 2 plays, jazz band, pep band, show choir, insturmental band. We have very few kids in our building who don't plug in to some activity.

Left overs of this.....If you all like spicy and rich you MUST try this recipe! Thanks to Sauver for sharing this. I have always made bufflo pizza, but the crunch of the celery and the blue cheese crumbles make this an EXCEPTIONAL pizza! My new favorite and definately will be making often!!!
