marmite

A tall, covered, straight-sided cooking pot from France, used for long-cooking stews and dishes such as
CASSOULET and
POT-AU-FEU. It's usually made of
EARTHENWARE. Petites marmites are identically shaped miniature covered pots used as soup bowls.
